Forty-seven years after Jimmy Buffett got stuck in traffic on the Seven Mile Bridge in the Florida Keys and finished writing the song Margaritaville, the billion-dollar tune has been added to the National Registry, a list of sound recordings deemed “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant” by the Library of Congress. The announcement came today, with the library calling on Key West’s Scott Atwell, author of Buffett Backstories, to pen the official essay about the song’s origins, and its legacy: Click here
